Our History & Legacy

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes was founded in 1843 in France by six young girls who shared a profound spiritual experience. Guided by compassion, they dedicated themselves to educating children and caring for the sick.

Their missionary spirit brought them to India in 1882. Responding to an appeal by Rev. Fr. A. Levelle, the Sisters extended their mission to Whitefield. On January 9, 1933, six pioneers—Sr. Marie Martha, Sr. Marie Patrick, Sr. Marie Teresita, Sr. Maria Vincentia, Sr. Maria Joanna, and Marie Prescilla—laid the foundation for this institution.

From humble beginnings under the shade of trees, St. Joseph’s Convent High School has grown into a beacon of knowledge, nurturing generations of students to succeed and serve with compassion.
